"Random matching" sounds like it should be instant and simple, but there's a real system behind it — otherwise you'd spend most of your time paired with people who don't share a language or any common ground. Here's what's actually happening when you tap Start Chatting.

Language comes first

Every match is paired by language preference — Urdu or English — since a conversation with no shared language ends before it starts. This is the one filter that always applies, whether you're on the free tier or Premium.

Everyone waiting is matched with the person who's been waiting longest

Matching works on a first-in, first-matched basis among people who are compatible with each other. That's why matching is usually near-instant during busy hours — there's almost always someone already waiting.

If no one's around, the filters relax automatically

If you've set optional preferences and no compatible match is found within a few seconds, the search automatically widens — dropping the optional filters first, while still keeping language matching intact. This means you're never stuck waiting indefinitely for a very specific combination of preferences; you'll still get matched, just with slightly looser criteria.

Premium adds gender and city preference on top

Free accounts match on language (and get a nudge from shared interests). Premium accounts can additionally set a preferred gender and city — useful if you specifically want to talk to people from Lahore, or specifically want to be matched with women or men. These are preferences, not guarantees — if nobody matching your exact preference is online, the same automatic relaxing kicks in after a few seconds.

Tips to get matched faster

• Chat during peak hours (evenings tend to have the most people online) rather than very early morning.
• Set a couple of interests on your profile — it's a soft signal used when there are multiple compatible candidates waiting.
• If you're on Premium and using gender or city filters, expect slightly longer waits — you're narrowing the pool on purpose.
• If a search feels stuck, cancel and start again rather than waiting indefinitely — a fresh join re-checks the whole queue.
