Text Chat vs Video Chat: Why We Started With Text First

Video chat is a planned Premium feature on MeetInPK, but it's deliberately not part of the platform yet — and that's a decision worth explaining rather than just noting.

Text lowers the barrier to actually trying it

Typing a message takes no preparation — no checking how you look, no finding good lighting, no deciding whether you're in the mood to be on camera. That lower barrier is a big part of why guest mode and instant text matching work as well as they do.

Text-first chat is also easier to moderate well

Automated spam and abuse detection on text is a well-understood problem with mature solutions. Live video moderation at scale is a much harder technical and infrastructure problem — one we'd rather solve properly before shipping it, instead of launching a version that's moderated poorly.

It's coming, deliberately, not indefinitely

Video chat is listed clearly as "Coming Soon" on the Premium page rather than left unmentioned — it's an active part of the roadmap, just not something we shipped before it was ready. Text and image/voice messaging cover a lot of the same underlying need in the meantime.
