Why this is the one filter that doesn't relax

Other preferences — gender, city, interests — can loosen if no exact match is available, because a conversation can still work without them. Language can't loosen the same way, since a chat where neither person understands the other doesn't work at all.

Setting your preference

You can set Urdu or English from your profile, and change it any time — it takes effect on your very next match. If you're comfortable in both, either setting works; the choice mostly matters if you have a strong preference for one over the other, or you're specifically trying to practice a language.

Using random chat to practice a language

A fair number of people use anonymous chat specifically to get comfortable typing in English with no pressure — there's no ongoing relationship to protect if a sentence comes out wrong, and no one who'll remember it after the chat ends.
